feelin’ good about it.

we’ve been raking in 4 eggs a day for just about three months now.
for brunch today, on this holiday weekend, we went all out.
some poached eggs, some fried eggs, some hollandaise… we’re learning to get creative with our ridiculous egg intake.
we were also able to deliver a half dozen eggs to each flat in our building.
happy labor day to all :)

this is our 3+ year-old avocado plant. grown from seed.
normally, she’s very happy.
recently, she has been getting eatin. not ravaged, but eaten.
so today, we put some copper wire down around her base in the hopes that she is being eaten by slugs and slugs are copper-resistant.
old wives tale? perhaps.
willing to try anything to save our burgeoning avocado? indeed.

so, we have a worm bin which is awesome. the worms eat our garlic peels, our avocado skins, our dead grass and leaves.
and then we have the girls… they eat everything else!!!
on today’s agenda: leeks, fennel tops, egg shells (a little weird, i know), flowering parsley, pablano pith, onions.
all of these extra nutrients lead to some BOMB tasting eggs.
KABOOM!

what do you get when you keep a seemingly good-for-nothing houseplant around and give it love and sun and… not much else?
a three years in the making yellow blossom!
whudda thunk it?!

sleeping al fresco
as the weather in san francisco heats up…the girls have taken to sleeping outside. their coop is well-ventilated and noticeably cooler than the main run during the day; but at night? the ladies take after their keepers and prefer to rest in the open air.
as i type, all four are happily perched high in the main run with the cool nights breeze beating at their breasts.
what lovely, outdoorsy ladies :)
